Taylormade SldrDriver: Editor's Review

Cons: The SLDR is lower than other TaylorMade drivers and has a more forward center of gravity. This allows for golfers to hit the ball with more spin and launch it higher, which can be a key factor in longer drivers. You also get a slightly higher ball speed and more forgiveness for shots that are low to the face. The SLDR's crown is a gray metallic metal, and not white. It reminds us of TaylorMade’s 300 Series drivers. You can tune it much better with its 20-gram sliding weight. This is in addition to being faster and more accurate than TaylorMade’s adjustable weight systems.

Cons: The SLDR does not have a face angle adjuster like TaylorMade's previous drivers. This will make it difficult for some golfers who want to alter the angle of their address to get to where they desire. Good and bad, it's not the "one-size-fits all" driver. The SLDR drivers offer a three-degree adjustability (1.25 degrees higher or lower) that is one degree less than the R1. However, the lofts available by each of the four head styles (8, 9.5 and 10.5 degrees), is three degrees higher than that offered by R1. TaylorMade's matt white crowns, or the R1 racing stripe, are both attractive. However, the R1 will have a traditional, glossier gray crown.

Bottom line: TaylorMade recently added more premium drivers to its fleet. The SLDR consolidates TaylorMade’s driver technology into a simpler, more efficient sliding mechanism. This gives the driver a forward-facing, ultra-low CG.

That combination of performance, simplicity and good looks makes it "the best driver TaylorMade has ever produced," according to company officials, and we don't think that's too far from the truth.

The SLDR was one of those rare drivers that is available every couple of years and has the potential of winning over a large number of golfers, as we found in our testing. TaylorMade's SLDR drivers are undoubtedly among the finest. They have a greater ball speed, lower spin and can be adjusted easily.

Golfwrx spotlight: Tour Edge Exotics” Driver

Tour Edge has been a leader in high-end hybrid and fairwaywood performance for many years with its Exotics collection of golf clubs. Chicago-based Tour Edge has consistently made high-quality golf clubs. C721's new range of drivers, fairwaywoods, hybrids is a significant improvement on last year’s EXS.

C721's new driver uses technology taken from 2020 EXS, and further improves upon it. Although it may seem cliché when car companies claim that each model they make is their greatest, Tour Edge proves me wrong.

When unboxing the C721 the first thing I noticed was the much-improved looks and shape over the previous Tour Edge drivers. What I find most striking is the increased bulge. This gives the top a more smooth and round look.

C721 has a slightly triangular shape that is slightly stretched at the front and back. Two carbon fiber wings and a titanium spine are part of the Ridgeback. They add stability to the head and provide forgiveness. However, they can be combined and used as an additional aiming device.

Getting the C721 out on the course is where you really start to appreciate all the technology that went into this driver. The well-struck shots can be very lengthy and boring. They will match any other driver on today's market. For center contact, you will receive a spin shot with very high spin that is fun to hit.

You can feel and hear the ball moving at high speeds. It sounds more muted and quieter than expected. You will appreciate your driver choice if you are practicing on an enclosed range. The shots that are hit from the centre of the face keep a lot of speed and remain online well.

My miss is on the heels. The misses were able to stay in the air quite well, and even went some distance. Ridgeback spine and weight ensure shots that are hit lower on the heel or on the toe end stay on-line well. I found the C721 slightly higher than my mid-launch, however the C721's spinning head did not allow for any shots to rise or balloon into the wind. It would have been nice if the face were a touch wider. I needed to tweak my tee height so that I could find the perfect setup. The better players will enjoy the neutral weighting and there seems to be very minimal draw built into the driver.

Review: Ping'S Drivers G400 and L400

It was July 2014, and I remember that first encounter with Ping's G30-driver. That was July 2014. I was in Phoenix at Ping’s headquarters. In that era, ultra-low-spin drivers were very popular. With their forward center of gravity, they were helping golfers optimize their launch conditions beyond their wildest dreams: crazy high launch, ridiculously low spin. One of the drivers was a familiar face to many in our business. I spent many launch monitors trying to learn how to achieve more distance using these low spins. The bad news was that forward-CG drivers, by nature, were really unforgiving. Poor shots could be very short and awkward.

Marty Jertson was Ping's Director, Product Development. He shared his vision about the perfect driver with me inside a meeting room at Ping headquarters. The ideal driver did not have a low forward center of gravity. Its CG was located as low and as rearward in the driver head as possible, which he said would offer the best of both worlds: optimized launch conditions on good shots, as well as the best possible forgiveness on bad shots.

Building the perfect driver was a long way off (and still is), but Jertson was excited where Ping had landed with the G30. This driver, which was the culmination of Ping’s vision, was powerful when released. Its rear-CG design created great distance on good and bad shots, and it was also a very straight driver. The G30 sold incredibly well and, as a result, the industry mostly shifted away from forward-CG drivers.

It's been nearly three years since the release of the G30, and Ping has just made another counterintuitive driver release. In a world where larger drivers are the norm, Ping has reduced the G400 driver's size. While it may only be 15 cubic centimeters less, the difference is noticeable at home. Comparable to their Ping G replacements (which were replaced by the G30), it looks as if the G400's cut carbs.

Although they are slimmer, the G400 drivers have a greater tolerance for mistakes than their G drivers. Ping representatives claim that the G400 is smaller and more forgiving than its predecessors. Ping's drivers are the most forward-facing Ping drivers, with a lower CG than any other. Their smaller sizes also improve aerodynamics, allowing golfers to swing their clubs fractionally quicker. Another big difference is the new T9S+ titanium face material. This is thinner and lighter to allow golfers more speed.

For this review, I wanted to put the G400 and G400 LST to the test against the G and the G LST drivers that they replace, so I took them to the Launch Pad Carl's Golfland in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. I hit five shots with each driver on Trackman IV, and to ensure as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as possible, I tested each driver head with the same shaft. Every driver's head was set to the exact same loft or close.

Note: The G, G LST, and G400 drivers I tested were 10.5-degree heads adjusted to 9.5 degrees. G400 LST had an elevation of 10 degrees. The loft on the G400 LST was 9.4 degrees.

Taylormade Sldr Driver Review. How Low Is the Spin?

Paul Club Reviews, Golf Product Reviews 6 Comments. This review is of the TaylorMade SLDR Driver 460cc model. It's considered to be the companion club for the SLDR fairwaywood.

With a clubhead that's larger and more forgiving than the 430cc model, the 460 SLDR driver packs a serious punch for high-spinners and other golfers alike.

Is it a good feeling?

The Taylor was a subject that I debated extensively. The "First Impressions” section reflected the feelings of the SLDR driver. But not just from an "impact” perspective. It is more about its "presence." At the end of my shaft, the SLDR felt heavy. You can think of the SLDR as a hammer. You can also adjust the slider weight to alter the balance, so make sure you have the right weight. Some players may add another weight to the track, which allows them more accuracy in their adjustment.

The SLDR feels extremely firm at impact, in addition to all the other wonders it can do. A ball in the center of the face feels like a metal wall won the battle of resistance in terms of energy transfer at impact.

The Best Place to Buy an Online Driver

At this time, I would discourage you from buying on Amazon, partly because of the limited availability and partly because you can find better prices elsewhere. Amazon is no longer a reliable source of golf clubs.

The SLDR model has been discontinued, but you will still be able to find it online. These two sites offer great deals on driver purchase.

The first is e. Bay. They are a terrific source of new and used SLDR motorists.

The second is Global Golf , which offers many attractive policies and deals (check out the current coupon codes) that make the buying process relatively painless. They may be out of stock soon.
