Cobra F7+ Driver Review

Sound & Feel

Here is the point where my Cobra King F7+ driver really impressed me. The modern driver has become so proficient in performance, that companies can only focus on areas such as feel, adaptability and forgiveness. Many new drivers report feeling fantastic in this season. Which feels better? That’s tough to say. The Cobra King F7+ I think is one of 2017’s best.

Shots hitting the King F7+’s sweet spot feel like shots are shot straight from the canon. The feel is still quite smooth and the King F7+ feels responsive. Forged 8-11 Titanium E9 is medium in volume. It has the same sound quality as the King LTD’s crackle, with slightly more percussion.

One of my Club Champion testers spotted me and asked what I thought. She said it all to me.

What You Should Know

PRICE: PS279.00 YEAR: Cobra’s KING F7 driver review. Cobra claims that the driver of the King F7 hasn’t reinvented the wheel. This was unnecessary.

Instead, they have fixed shiny new spokes, replaced the tyres and made sure they’re freewheeling their way into the bags of the masses.

The two new drivers for 2017 once again feature moveable weights, and come in two headshapes and styles.

A new inclusion with the driver is Cobra Connect. A device in the butt of the grip connects with an app to provide driving stats for players. It is free and available to download with the driver.

Cobra King F7 and F7+ profiles. Looks like F7. The bigger of the two addresses, with a larger face. It was beautiful in glossy blue. Available in black, orange, or silver.

Our confidence in the ball was a little higher than that of traditional drivers.

F7+ This profile is smaller at 455 cc and will attract better players. It has a matte finish.

Cobra F7/F7+ Driver Review

Cobra KingF7/F7+ Review by Dominic Choma. Club Fitter. The King F7 and KingF7+ drivers are here to help. A new 2017 model, the King F7 driver replaces King F6+ and is available at 3499.99. The King F7+ will replace the King F6+, and retail at $399.99.

King F7 Driver features an identical movable weigh system as the King F6 driver, with only a few minor differences. There is now an extra weight port on the King F7, located near the foot of the golf course. The new weight settings allow for a much more biased flight. Since most golfers like to cut the ball, the addition of this weight setting is very welcomed. It should make the model more accessible to a larger range of players. A new weight setting has also been added to the King F7 driver, where the max weight is now 12 grams. Eight loft settings are available on the King F7 driver. There are three options that allow for a more upright position, such as those that favor slicing the ball or hitting the ball too high.

For the KingF7+ driver, it is different from the KingF7. First off the sliding weight track from the King F6+ is gone, and replaced with the same 3 weight settings that are in the King F7 with a weight port in the back, front, and heel. King F7+ features the same 12-gram weight as King F7. So if both drivers have the same weight settings with the same weights, what is the difference you might be wondering?

You will find a few things that are different between the drivers. These differences will affect which player each driver will enjoy. The biggest difference in the overall shape and look of each driver. Comparable to the King F7 the F7+ features a more prominent clubface and a smaller profile from front to back at the address. This will appeal to those with lower handicaps as it is their preferred look. This makes the KingF7+ slightly easier than the KingF7. The skilled golfer will have a better control of their ball flight. The King F7 with its larger footprint and shape, should appeal to the higher handicap golfer who wants more forgiveness on their mis-hits and a straighter ball flight. The loft settings on the King F7+ driver are another difference. F7+ also has 3 degrees loft adjustability, 8 settings and a range of lofts from 8-11 degrees. If you are not a fan of hitting your tee shots too high this is the perfect option.

To get an idea of how these new drivers perform, I put them to the test in The Cluboratory at Miles of Golf Ann Arbor. In each setting of weight (Back/Heel/Front), I tested each model (King F7+ and King F7+). The standard lie angle setting had my heads set at 9.5 degrees, giving me the best loft possible for my swing. The Aldila Rogue Silver 70g Extra Stiff shaft was used for the test. This shaft suits my swing well. There were only two variables that were affected by this test: the weight setting and the clubhead design. You can see the following results.

Cobra F7+ Driver Review

Cobra Golf will continue to strive for the best-rounded, performance driven golf lineup. They will offer three choices in the driver section: the King LTD, F7 and F7+. THP was fortunate enough to be able to take the F7+-equipped driver with them to experience the improvements in performance and aesthetics.

Specifications:

Last year, Cobra showed a commitment to moveable weight and its effect on performance where fine-tuning and fitting is concerned. The F6+ featured what might still be the most advanced single moving weight system on the market, however, this year Cobra wanted to bring more to the table than just a variable front to back option. The F7+ has a new three-weight system. This is a more advanced version of last year’s F6+.

Cobra has placed a heavy emphasis on weight reduction and manipulation of the F7 drivers. The F7+ is perhaps their best example. Due to the sheer amount of technology involved in the F7+ it seems sensible to provide a detailed breakdown of this technology to help you better understand its impact on your performance.

Weight Modification

Three weight ports are available on the head, one 12g and two at 2g. These allow for CG fine tuning and manipulation based upon player needs. The usual locations are front (low launch) or back (high launch). However, the new location at the heel gives users draw weight options. It is also possible to use a spinning “+”, which traditionally is more neutral in fade bias, and a lower-launching design. Cobra should be commended for changing their terminology from “towering” to “penetrating” as seen with the F6 and moving towards a lighter “high”, “low”, and “draw” design. While it is small, the result is cleaner.

Performance wise, the weights showed on the launch monitor that the movement around the three different ports absolutely effect ball flight. The average launch angle increase of placing 12g in the back was 1.6deg, while the spin speed increased by 323 RPM when the weight is in the front. However, the draw port did show a slight increase of 0.6deg but a noticeable effect on right-to-left flight. Keep in mind that users will have different needs and the change amount, however the data does show the location system works. It will be interesting to see if Cobra makes more weights available on their website as they did with the F6’s, as that could very well make these heads a fitters delight.
