Shaft Length In Irons

A set of measurements is used to determine the ideal length for irons. A player with a very large stature would have difficulty using golf clubs made for someone shorter.

Standard-length clubs can be used by a wide range of heights. Players who are shorter or more tall will require shaft length modifications.

But how much extra length does a taller player need? To make it easier for short players, what lengths should they be shortened? For decades, club fitters used these measurement methods to calculate the lengths that would be best for each golfer.

The driver shaft’s length is determined by the length the golf club’s shaft is in relation to its overall length. This is also known as the distance between the overall length of the golf club and its clubhead.

Generally, the longer your driver shaft is, the more difficult it becomes to have control over the club and hit a ball squarely.

Changing Shaft Length

It is possible to adjust the length of your club. Instead, there are two approaches to changing your golf clubs’ length, if needed. First, you can simply buy new shafts that are the correct length for your clubs. You would then need to take out the shaft you have and replace it with a newer one. However, I recommend that you reduce the size or prolong the current shaft. This is the best, most affordable option.

This is done by taking off your grips as well as the tape. Then, you’ll have an exposed shaft on the end of your club. To cut down the shaft to a shorter length, measure the amount you want to cut off and use a shaft cutter to take that amount off the end of your club. To make your shaft lengthen, purchase a shaft extension. Make sure you get an extension that is the same material (steel or graphite) as your current shaft. You can then put the grip on again as usual after you are done.

A sturdy aluminum ruler with straight edges of forty-eight inches is the best. You won’t get an exact measurement with a tape measure, as it will be too lightweight and fragile. An aluminum yardstick is available at any local home improvement center.

Your workbench is not the best tool to measure golf clubs. It is better to place your club on a stand so that it can be viewed at the address. The sole member of the club must be flattened on the ground.

You should place the straight edge in a way that it touches the ground. With the ruler against the hosel, the club should stay in the address. The portion of the club that has the clubhead connected to the shaft is called the hosel.

You should press the straight edge to as near as possible to your shaft. Take a look at the measurements on the base of your grip cap. This measurement should give you the length.

Standard Club Sizes

Iron: The one iron club is a little over forty inches in length. Every iron is half inch smaller than the next size, until you get to the nine-iron which is a little more than thirty-six inches. Differences in irons can also occur due to shaft material. Generally, graphite shafts are 1 inch longer than steel shafts.

It is a common fact that irons intended for men have an average length of one inch more than those made for women.

Drivers: The standard driver is approximately forty-five inches long. Three Wood: This wood measures forty-two inches. It’s two inches smaller than the other kinds of woods.

Putter: A standard putter length is approximately thirty-four inches. But, putters are often longer than irons. It often depends on the putter’s construction. Like other clubs, a model with a central shaft is measured from the bottom rather than the top. Instead, it’s measured along the shaft where it enters the head.

Once you have an idea of how long the clubs are, it is time to match your style and length to create the perfect bend and flex.
