Ping G25 Review

A hybrid is one that you don't have as many of but still need. Hybrids vary in their shape and design more than just about any other clubs on the market. Manufacturers may prefer hybrids to look small like fairway woodens. Other manufacturers make hybrids with more iron-like designs. PING is another manufacturer that seems to have a wide range of hybrid products. THP was sent PING's latest hybrid offering, the G25 – let's check it out.

You can have a variety of hybrids with PING. The G20 and I20 were both solid hybrids in their own rights, yet to me they had more of a driving iron look and feel to them. Personally, these types of hybrids tend to be difficult for me. PING sent me the G25 to review. I was very happy to notice that their latest hybrid product took a different approach in terms of its shape and makeup.

Get G25 Styles

PING has recently introduced the matte black PING PING to their G25. This is something I really love. While we live in an age where glossier and brighter colors seem to be more common, PING stands out with their matte black finish. It is stealthy and screams serious. It's possible to have gloss, but it is only in the sole club. The matte black and gloss combine beautifully for a beautiful looking mix.

To give it a more fairway-wood feel than other PING hybrids, the G25 features softer edges and an even shallower face. This is something I love and it's likely that many other golfers will agree. G25 gave me confidence at the address. You just feel at home behind the ball, and know you are on your way to a great shot.

Technical info from PING. Ball flight is designed using progressive CG sites. Lower-lofted hybrids are lighter and have more spin. The CG in the higher lofts moves forward to reduce spin and prevent the ball ballooning.

Tolerant Face: The heel and toe are squared to ensure a consistent hitting surface. This is especially important for low-angle shots, which can be very frustrating.

With game enhancer forgiveness, you can achieve a better look as a player. Minimal offset, responsive off the face, easy to shape.

Some testers launched at a very low level. Other testers had greater distance gains due to higher swing speeds.

RRP PS170.00. Ping G25 took home a Silver award at the Hybrids Test 2014.

2013 Hybrids Test As usual the matt black finish was universally liked. James wouldn't think of the G25 without the offset. This is especially true when considering the fact that the G25 range is heavily geared towards the game-improver. He liked the compact head design and thought it was a better club for players. He was drawn to the dual-toned design of the crown that separates the front and back. It sat behind the ball very well, and he found it easy to align thanks to the grooves.

Matt was struck by the ease of hitting the target due to both the design and how it sat in the address. There was an air of high-quality products and high forgiveness. Antony was attracted to the low profile which allowed him to easily execute shots of the tight lie. He was a little perturbed by the lack of alignment aid but liked everything else. James was able to score maximum marks in dispersion for his straightest hybrid. Antony's second longest, it scored 9/10 in dispersion. It was Matt's longest hybrid and his straightest on the average test. Deserving winner.

What's the Takeaway

Above: Ping New G25 Fairway Wood's matte black finish is compared with last year's G20 gloss finish.

Ping appears to have found an innovative way to increase forgiveness for the toughest-to-hit club in his bag with the G25 fairwaywoods and hybrids.

Other companies have not been able to create hybrids and woods with game-improvement properties that are strong enough to handle the feel and power required off the tee. This should give low handicap golfers confidence to play the G25.

Ping has three options for fairway woods and hybrids, including the G25. These lineups are available to the most demanding player and provide yardage gap coverage. G25 is a mid-range option that will suit most players, regardless of their handicap. The G25 hybrids and fairway woods are suitable for all levels of golfers, provided that the shaft is properly fitted.

Take a look

When it comes to looks for hybrids, it really doesn't get much better than the Ping i25 . You won't find any crazy colors, unusual logos or strange shapes. A beautiful, matte-black head features a flat black sole and a smooth black face. Andrew Jesernig described the G25 fairway woods in his review as "sexy", and I think I understand what he meant. Ping has some very sleek and elegant hybrids.
