Ping G30 3 Wood Review

Introduction

A recent review dubbed PING G30 the "best all around driver in golf." Billy Horschel used it to win both the Tour Championship as well as the Fed. Ex Cup. Bubba Watson uses one to be the PGA Tour's driving distance leader.

It's easy to forget that the fairwaywood is important in all of this excitement surrounding the driver. PING made an already exceptional club stand out even more by adding PING to it.

Ping G30 Fairway Woods Review

One area where PING has always seemingly been quiet in the public eye is with fairway woods. G30 illustrates a significant shift in G-series. This line aims at providing the necessary distance and playability for all golfers.

More information about Fairway Woods G30 from PING:

G30 fairway woodens were developed to create a harder, more forgiving face capable of producing distance with controlled control. A strong, uniform-thickness Carpenter 475 face maximizes deflection to increase ball speed and generate distance. It is also larger to allow for more face bending, forgiveness, and even greater flexibility. Crown Turbulators aid in confidence and aim. There are five settings that allow you to adjust loft up or down to optimise trajectories.

The Glance

TG Rating 4.2 of 5

Rated 5/5 by Owner

Unique feeling of power from the face.

However, Turbulators were not effective at driving long distances as drivers.

RRP PS210.00

G30 woods preserve the driver's Turbulator drag thwarting crown through a hotter head. This was without sacrificing speed or consistency. Hotter face – stronger steel allowed Ping to create a thin, uniform-thickness face which maxes deflection at impact. The new centre of gravity is moved forward with the lofts getting higher in order to maintain the optimal launch angle and spin characteristics for each clubhead. You can adjust the loft to alter launch and spin. There are five options available.

Marty Jertson is Ping's chief club design officer. We spoke to him about fairway woods. You can watch this video right here. As we reviewed the 2014 Fairway Woods Test, the shape is good and has a mid-face depth. This wood's length will fit the needs of game enhancers. Turbulators can add attitude but they may not be as effective on the driver. They didn't appear to improve club speed. The Turbulators are helpful in positioning the ball at its central position. The club's speed wasn't as good as their driver counterpart. It felt really stable, like the strike point didn't matter. The versatility is further enhanced by the ability to adjust. The shots felt great off the face. Powerful and very forgiving of bad strikes.
