Taylormade Tour Premium X 2016 Golf Ball Review

Tour Preferred X, like before, is a five-layer construction to allow for a slight lower flight of the longer irons.

The compression is down a whole 1 point to 87 so is effectively the same as before and there is little change in feel to the 2014 X model. Soft Tech cast-urethane is slightly thicker that before, and has the same number 322 dimples than the standard ball.

Surrounding the green, the Tour Preferred X sounded a touch firmer than the standard Tour Preferred. In many ways it was similar to a Pro V1x.

High spin and faster swing speeds will likely get the most performance out of the X. However, the difference in the Tour Preferred models will be helpful if your decision is based on your feel around greens.

The performance numbers revealed the difference between the balls, aside from their greenside feel. The Tour Preferred X spins faster with a wedge. This is due to the greater compression. However, the feel is more difficult.

As the Tour Preferred uses longer irons, the Tour Preferred launches higher and has more spin. Additionally, the Tour Preferred can stop faster due to less roll.

My swing speed performance was very similar to the Tour Preferred's, although it did not travel the same distance at a slightly lower swing speed.

Taylormade Tour Is the Lethal-Ier Golf Ball

Tony Covey Tony Covey. This latest is a string of badly kept secrets. TaylorMade today officially announced the new Tour Preferred and Tour Preferred X golf balls.

It's over, LETHAL. You're right, it was me there. You know what I'm talking about. We were hoping for the 2014 LETHALIER. Or perhaps something even more majestic like the SUPER DEATHNINJA (TP).

The absolute fact of the matter is that TaylorMade knows LETHAL was a stupid name. Really…they really do know it. When I discussed the subject with Josh Talge, TaylorMade's VP of Metalwoods and Golf Balls, he suggested that in addition to the ridiculous name, packaging the balls to look like a Metallica album perhaps wasn't the shrewdest marketing move either.

Josh was a former employee of Old Spice. Your ex-company's guy who brought you "I'm the man your woman wants to smell like" as well as "I'm riding a horse" freely admitted that certain aspects of the old product might be a bit excessive.

Although LETHAL sold well and was a great ball, it turned out that golf is not dominated by the heavy metal crowd.

Leave LETHAL. Get Tour Preferred

LETHAL tour Preferred, a golf ball that is serious and durable (actually two balls), was made for serious golfers. LETHAL has no name to scare anyone off before they hit it. The packaging is a lot more Enter Sandman.

What is the Taylormade Tp5 golf ball's performance?

You're more likely to notice a difference in ball class, more so than between manufacturers. Golfers regard the Pro. V1 and Pro. V1x and Pro are the most popular golf balls. However, players who use Callaway's Chrome Soft as well as TaylorMade TP5 will agree that they perform the same or even better.

Chrome Soft has the shortest and lightest weight, while the TP5 TP5x matches closely to the Titleist Pro. V1 Pro. V1 Pro. Bridgestone also produces the Bridgestone Tour B330S, and Tour B330S three-pieces. Out of the group though, only TaylorMade produces a ball with five layers.

It's enough about the name, how about the ball?

As you might expect given the Tour Preferred's position as Taylor. Taylor is Made's latest release. Made claimed that Tour Preferred was the greatest performing brand of ball they have ever made.

You would never guess.

Taylor has a few features that you may not be aware of. Made would like to tell you about these features so I'll just paste them below:

Use REACT(tm).Core to improve your ball speed and distance.

Spin MantleTM is designed for consistent and exact spin rates at given shots in the bag.

Low Drag Performance Aerodynamics(LDP(tm),) A 322-dimple design that minimizes distance on low spin shots while maintaining a penetration ball flight in the wind.

Golf ball innovation does not happen in a day. This is not a one-off event. It's a process of constant conversation with Tour players. These discussions have resulted in breakthrough technologies such as low drag aerodynamics to resist wind, five-layer construction that provides superior control over the entire club set, and our softest, most durable cover." Dean Snell Vice President, Golf Ball R&D Taylor. Made Golf The other featured technology found in the Tour Preferred balls is what Taylor. Soft Tech ™ is what Made refers to. Soft Tech(tm), is marketing speak, or maybe marketing double-speak for a cover material that Taylor. They claim that Made is more resilient and soft than any other product they have ever made.
